The Hamburger Polo Club is a sports club in Hamburg that was founded in 1898 and has departments for polo , hockey and tennis . The club with around 1500 members has its club complex in Klein Flottbek . It includes a polo pitch, a small artificial turf field, its own sports hall and seven clay tennis courts. The artificial hockey turf is located around 500 m north. The association's current president is Thies Algner.

Polo has been played since the club was founded. In 1906 the first international polo tournament took place, the championship of the continent , with teams from Madrid, Antwerp, Paris and Hamburg. During the First World War, the sporting activity was suspended until 1921. Due to the economic crisis, the sport of polo was given up again in the 1930s. The last major event was the participation of a Hamburg team in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. The club was not reactivated until 1955 and from 1959 the Champion Cup (donated in 1909), the Berlin Cup (donated in 1910) and the Bremen Cup (donated in 1928) took place regularly.

The Gold Cup of the German Polo Association , which is also based on the club's grounds, has been played in Hamburg almost every year since 1979 . Hamburg became the national polo stronghold in the 1980s and 1990s. The club's polo players also include Germany's best players: Thomas Winter with a handicap of 5, Christopher Kirsch ( handicap . 4) and Christopher Winter (handicap. 3).

tennis

The tennis department has around 650 members. Of the seven places, five will be built over with two heated and interconnected air domes in winter. Seven men's and six women's teams take part in the media games. In the youth sector there are currently nine teams. The first men's team of the Hamburg Polo Club currently (as of May 2017) plays in the Regionalliga Nord-Ost in the summer season and in the Northern League in the winter season.

hockey

The Hamburg Polo Club has had its own artificial turf field on Hemmingstedter Weg since 1998 and a hockey hall and a small artificial turf field on the club premises since 2007. The flagship of the club was for many years the first women's team, which 2008/2009 on the field in the 2. Bundesliga played and again in the hall promotion to the Bundesliga managed. The women are currently playing in the hall and on the field in the Regionalliga Nord. The 1st men currently play in the hall as well as on the field in the 1st Bundesliga. The greatest success so far was reaching the quarter-finals of the German championship in the 2019/2020 season. The Hamburg Polo Club also has over 300 young hockey players and runs a ball school (ActivKids) for the little ones.
