structure

The four regions in hockey

The overall structure of the league system in German club hockey is presented in detail in the article on the hockey league system in Germany .

In the 2nd Bundesliga in German women's hockey, 8 teams in two groups (North and South) play against each other in a home and away game; 3 points are awarded for a win and 1 point for a draw. In the north group the clubs from the north and west hockey regions play, in the south group the clubs from the east and south regions play. In each of these four regions North, East, South and West there is a regional league below the 2nd Bundesliga, which is organized by the respective regional associations Interest Group North (IGN), East German Hockey Association (OHV), South German Hockey Association (SHV) and West German Hockey Association (WHV).

The first of the two groups are promoted to the 1st Bundesliga .

The two winners of the regional leagues north and west move up to the north group, the winners of the regional leagues east and south in the south group of the 2nd Bundesliga. Second teams cannot be promoted to the Bundesliga, in these cases the top-ranked first team in the regional league moves up.

Depending on the group affiliation of the relegated from the 1st Bundesliga, one, two or three teams from a group of the 2nd Bundesliga are relegated to the regional league of their region. So the group size in both groups remains at eight teams. The final red marking in the tables can therefore only be applied after the 1st Bundesliga has ended.

Time schedule

The season starts in September, is interrupted by the indoor season between November and March, and continues in April.

Start of the 2nd division

The 2nd field Bundesliga women was newly formed in the 2003/04 season . Six teams came from the 1st Bundesliga women , which was reduced from two groups of eight teams to one group of ten teams. A total of ten teams came from the four regional leagues North, East, South and West. The first and second of the four leagues were qualified, the respective third from North and West or East and South determined two more promoted players in the two-legged game.
