The field hockey Bundesliga is the highest national league in German women's hockey . The game is organized by the German Hockey Association .
structure
There has been a single-track Bundesliga in German hockey since the 2003/04 season. Twelve teams have played in the 1st Bundesliga since the 2010/11 season, up from ten before. The teams play the four semi-finalists in a double round. The winner of the main round automatically receives a starting place in the European Cup Winners' Cup.
In a final round, the main round first plays against the main round fourth and the third against the second in the main round. The winners play the German champions on the following day. This receives the right to start the European Champion Clubs' Cup. If the German champion was also the main round winner, the vice-champion moves up into the European Cup.
The last two main rounds are relegated to their respective group in the 2nd Bundesliga .
Time schedule
The season starts in September, is interrupted by the indoor season between November and March, and continues in April. The best four teams qualify after a double round for the Final Four tournament, in which the semi-finals and finals are held at one venue over a weekend. The Final Four tournaments take place between May and July together with the finals of the men's Bundesliga .
Current season
The 2018/19 field season began on September 1, 2018. The final round will be held on a weekend in May 2019 together with the men.
