The indoor hockey Bundesliga , more precisely the 1st Bundesliga , is the highest national division for men in German indoor hockey . The game is organized by the German Hockey Association .

structure

The indoor hockey Bundesliga was first introduced in 1973 with two groups, north and south, each with six teams.

Since the 2000/01 season there has been a four-track Bundesliga with the North, East, South and West groups of six teams each. This is followed by the 2nd indoor hockey league , which also consists of four seasons with six teams each. Then come the four regional leagues (south, west , east, north). The team placed last in each group in the 1st Bundesliga is relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga, the group winners in the 2nd Bundesliga are promoted.

The two best in each group in the 1st Bundesliga qualify for the quarter-finals of the German championship. The group winners have home rights, the pairings are changed annually. The winners of the quarter-finals contest the final round, which is also played in a knockout system . The winner of the final round is German champions and is entitled to start in the EuroHockey Indoor Club Champions Cup .
