from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Igor Alexandrowitsch Domnikow ( Russian Игорь Александрович Домников , often also in English transcription Igor Domnikov ; born May 29, 1959 , † July 16, 2000 in Moscow ) was a Russian journalist .

Life

Domnikow grew up in the Siberian city of Tomsk , where he attended secondary school and then graduated from Tomsk State University with a degree in journalism. After graduating, he worked for the newspaper Sapolyarnaya Pravda in Norilsk .

Since October 1998 Domnikov has been working as a reporter and editor for Novaya Gazeta , which has made a name for itself in the Russian press landscape for its opposition to the government and its commitment to a “peaceful” solution to the Chechnya conflict .

On May 12, 2000, Igor Domnikov was knocked down and passed out in a pool of blood by a hitherto unknown perpetrator in front of the entrance to the house in which he lived. Domnikov died on July 16 without regaining consciousness. Both the police and Domnikov's colleagues are sure that the attack is related to his professional activity.

The assassination attempt on Igor Domnikov has not been resolved to this day. There is speculation that the attack was not intended to hit him, but hit another Novaya Gazeta reporter , Oleg Sultanov , who received threats in connection with reports of corruption in the oil industry.
