The Tomsk State University (or Tomsk State University ), short-TSU ( Russian Томский государственный университет , shortly ТГУ ) is a public university in the Russian city of Tomsk and the oldest university in Siberia .

The Tomsk State University was founded in 1878 by Tsar Alexander II , opened ten years later and is now divided into five faculties and 22 departments with a total of 23,000 students.
