The Tomsk Polytechnic University - also Tomsk Polytechnic University , shortly TPU ( Russian Томский политехнический университет (ТПУ) ) - is a technical university in the western Siberian city of Tomsk with about 22,000 students, has a similar meaning as the in state university belongs.

history

The Tomsk Technological Institute was founded in 1896 , opened in 1900 and is the oldest technical university east of the Urals . Between 1923 and 1934 the university changed its name several times and was temporarily called "Technological Institute Siberia" and "Industrial Institute Siberia" before it was given its current name.

International Relations

International university partnerships are maintained, including with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the German-Russian College in Karlsruhe . Furthermore, in 1993 the TPU founded the "Russian-German Center for Education and Research". In addition to offering language courses, implementing projects with the DAAD and maintaining other collaborations, the RDZ is also responsible for coordinating the cooperation between the Tomsk region and Germany.

In addition to the Russian-German center, there is also a Russian-American, Russian-French and an Asia-Pacific center. There are also contacts with Ohio State University , Michigan State University and the Université Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg .
