Markku Slawyk

Markku Slawyk (born May 8, 1962 in Saarijärvi , Finland ) is a former German hockey player , he won the Olympic silver medal with the German national hockey team in 1984 .

Markku Slawyk was born in Finland, but moved to Germany with his parents in 1966 and received German citizenship in the same year. He played for RTHC Bayer Leverkusen until 1986 and then moved to Hamburg for Uhlenhorster HC . In 1982 he won with the German team at the Junior World Championship in Kuala Lumpur and made his debut in the senior national team in the same year. In 1983 he took third place with the German team at the European Championships in Amstelveen. The defender was a regular at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, where the team only lost to Pakistan in the final. In the 1986 World Cup in London, the German team won bronze at the Champions Trophy in 1986 won Germany. From 1982 to 1987, Slawyk played a total of 96 international matches, 12 of them indoors.

After his career, Slawyk worked as a coach, he is the Hamburg state coach for hockey.

Since 2019 he has been the coach of the youth teams of the Crefeld HTC.
