Robbery Liebenstein Castle

With Raubschloss Liebenstein one is ruined castle on a rocky outcrop in Schwarzwassertal in Pobershau referred. The spur castle was probably built in the 12th century and possibly served as road protection.

history

According to archaeological finds, there was a medieval fortification on the Liebenstein mountain spur, which fell steeply into the valley, from the 12th to the 14th centuries . Presumably it could have been a village manorial seat of possibly Bohemian feudal holders . However, Bohemian influence can be doubted at this point, because the area in question was then uninhabited jungle .

With some probability, today's deserted Ullersdorf can be assigned to this weir system. It is assumed that this acted as a local base in the colonization process. At the same time, the fortification and settlement are considered to be the furthest forward posts in a region in which - apparently favored by a Bohemian path - settlement began in the second half of the 12th century.

The name Liebenstein is only passed down on later maps. The term robbery castle was popularly coined for the remains of the complex.

It was estimated to be 90 meters long and 25 meters wide. The weir system consisted of two simple earth trenches with an earth wall in between to seal off the hinterland. The interior of the castle consisted of two parts: an almost square area and separated from this by a section ditch, the raised core structure, which is formed by a rock cliff partially encased with dry masonry.

The ruins with the remains of a strong tower are said to have been visible until the 18th century .

present

Today only remains of walls and worked stones can be seen on the Liebenstein. A plaque on the excavation area indicates the history of this place.
