Dirk Brinkmann

Dirk Brinkmann (born October 2, 1964 in Duisburg ) is a former German hockey player . He won two Olympic silver medals.

Career

Dirk Brinkmann played like his older brother Mark and later his younger brother Thomas for Uhlenhorst Mülheim , the mother had been German tennis champion in women's doubles under her maiden name Margret Kreienberg. Dirk was a midfielder, but was also used in attack. He was there when the Mülheimers won their first championship title in 1985 after 21 years. Seven more titles followed by 1995, and in 1987 the club also won indoors. From 1988 Brinkmann was also in several winning teams at the European Champions Cup .

After Dirk Brinkmann became junior world champion in 1982, he made his debut in the German national team in the same year . His first major success was winning the European Indoor Hockey Championship in 1984 . At the 1984 Olympic Games, Dirk Brinkmann played three games, including the 1: 2 final defeat against Pakistan. At the 1986 World Cup and the 1987 European Field Hockey Championship, Dirk Brinkmann was involved in winning the bronze medal. After winning the European Indoor Hockey Championship in 1988, he was also a member of the 1988 Olympic Games and, this time together with his brother Thomas, won the silver medal again. Dirk Brinkmann played a total of 115 international matches from 1982 to 1996, 18 of them indoors.
