Nicolien Sauerbreij (born July 31, 1979 in De Hoef , Netherlands ) is a Dutch snowboarder .

As the daughter of a ski instructor, Sauerbreij was already on skis at the age of 2. It was not until she was twelve that she switched to snowboarding. Just two years later at the Junior World Championship, she made her first major international appearance with a fourth place.

After initial successes, Nicolien Sauerbreij was the flag bearer for the Netherlands at the opening ceremony of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . Nicolien Sauerbreij won several international snowboard competitions in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2008. In 2008 she won the World Cup in parallel slalom and the Overall Snowboard World Cup . At the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver , she won the gold medal in the parallel giant slalom . At the Snowboard World Championships 2011 in La Molina she won silver in the parallel slalom. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , she came 20th in the parallel slalom and tenth in the parallel giant slalom.

In 2010 she was voted Sportswoman of the Year in the Netherlands .
