Career

Athletic career

Kummer has been racing since the 1999/2000 season. In 2003, at the age of 15, she became runner-up in parallel slalom at her first elite Swiss championship. To date she has won a total of 3 vice Swiss championship titles and once she was ranked third. She was able to secure 5 Swiss championship titles among the juniors. At the Snowboard World Championships in 2009 she surprisingly won the bronze medal in the parallel giant slalom. Kummer won her first World Cup victory in Limone Piemonte on December 11, 2010 in a parallel slalom.

In the 2011/12 season she won the overall World Cup and the discipline classification in parallel slalom, celebrating the greatest success of her career to date. This came about when Kummer won 5 of the 11 World Cup races and was able to achieve a second place.

In the following year ( 2012/13 season ) Kummer managed to defend the parallel overall World Cup. She also won the parallel slalom competition. Kummer came second in the parallel giant slalom discipline.

In the 2013/14 season , Kummer was again able to win the overall World Cup for the third time in a row. She was also the first alpine snowboarder ever to win all 3 balls of the parallel scores (overall score and the two discipline scores in the parallel slalom and in the parallel giant slalom) in a single season. No snowboarder before her, neither men nor women, has achieved this. At the Winter Olympics in Sochi , she won the gold medal in the parallel giant slalom.

In the 2016/17 season, she made it into the top ten five times in nine World Cup appearances. She won the parallel giant slalom in Bansko and also took second place twice. She reached third place in the Parallel World Cup and second place in the Parallel Giant Slalom World Cup. At the season highlight, the Snowboard World Championships 2017 in Sierra Nevada , she won the silver medal in the parallel giant slalom and finished seventh in the parallel slalom.
