Carezza ski area - Karersee

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Carezza - Karersee ski area is located between Rosengarten and Latemar in the South Tyrolean Dolomites ( Italy ). It is a member of Dolomiti Superski and forms the Fassa Carezza association with the ski areas in the Fassa Valley (Belvedere-Col Rodella, Ciampedie, Alba and Ciampac).

history

The Karer Pass was already a popular holiday destination at the beginning of the 20th century and was visited by celebrities and starlets. These included Empress Sissi (1897), Karl May , Luis Trenker and Winston Churchill . During this time the Grand Hotel was opened.

The Carezza - Karersee ski area itself was opened in the winter of 1950/1951. At that time it was one of the first ski facilities in South Tyrol and in the Alpine region. The first lift was the Paolina lift. This route will still exist in 2020.

After a glorious start, the ski area ran into financial difficulties in the 1990s. Parts of the ski area were not open for the winter season.

From 2008 Georg Eisath was involved in business in Carezza - Karersee. Eisath was a co-founder of TechnoAlpin AG, a manufacturer of snow-making systems. For the first winter season 2008/2009 three new lifts were put into operation, 170 snow cannons and snow lances were installed and two new slopes were inaugurated. In summer 2009 theSnow-making pond Paolina as96,000 m³ storage basin created for artificial snow-making on the ski slopes. The ski area celebrated its 60th anniversary in the 2010/2011 winter season. In December 2012, as part of the Interreg Italy-Switzerland “Alpine Climate Ski Area” project, energy carpets were installed at the valley stations, with which tourists could generate electricity through their movements. From the 2013–2014 winter season, a new cable car went directly from the center of Welschnofen to the Carezza ski area. Thus the ski area via Welschnofen could be reached from Bozen in just 15 minutes. In addition, the ski area has been made a family ski area: special children's bars and separate entrances for the children have been set up. From the 2015 winter season, the sixth “Tschein” chairlift opened, connecting the zone southeast of the Moseralm, Paolina and Latemar with the Laurin slopes in the northwest. In addition, a family fun park on the Tschein slope, a training slope and a multi-purpose room for ski clubs have been set up.

Departures

View from the Paolina slope

Carezza - Karersee has around 40 kilometers of slopes. The range of ski slopes is divided into 21 km of blue (easy slopes), 12 km of red (medium-difficult slopes) and 7 km of black (difficult slopes). The lowest point of the ski area is at 1343 m at the valley station in Welschnofen . The highest point is the mountain station of the König Laurin Lift at 2337 m above sea level.

In addition to the lifts and slopes, there are three toboggan runs , a snow park and cross-country skiing trails .

Lift systems

There are eight ski lifts in the ski area: a two-seater chairlift, two three-seater chairlifts, two automatic four-person chairlifts, an eight-person cabin lift, a ten-person cabin lift and a six-person chair lift. There are also two children's parks in the Carezza ski area, each with a people mover and a ski school.

Summer operation and huts

In the Carezza skiing and hiking area there are a total of 20 ski huts, some of which are also open in summer.

The Carezza ski and hiking area at the foot of the Catinaccio in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites is open to hikers and summer sports enthusiasts between the end of May and mid-October. In the summer months, the Paolina (rose garden), König Laurin, Laurin I and Prà di Tori lifts are open.

Storage basin

The reservoir, which was built in 2009, was the largest, most modern and most environmentally friendly of its kind in South Tyrol at the time of construction. Due to the morphologically suitable terrain on a saddle, the location was ideal for the construction of the reservoir. The sea level makes it possible to fill the reservoir from the existing small "Tschein" basin under its own pressure. A large part of the snow-making system is supplied under its own pressure. The maximum reservoir size of the basin is almost 96,000 m³. The water level is slightly below 10 m. The surface of the water at the company dam is approximately 14,200 m². The dam consists of two poured, homogeneous earth dams, which were built after the removal of the organic material and the two to four meters thick, densely packed gravel or weathering layer of the bedrock on the compact rock.
