Yao Shepherd-Tsahe

Yao Schäfer-Tsahe (born May 10, 1973 in Lomé , Togo ) is a former German basketball player of Togolese  descent.

career

Schäfer-Tsahe was born in Togo and came to live with adoptive parents in Germany at the age of four and grew up in Munich . After graduating from secondary school, he learned physiotherapy . The 2.02 meter tall indoor player played for DJK Munich, Lotus Munich , in Trier and for the second division clubs Post Karlsruhe and SG Braunschweig , before moving to TG Landshut in the basketball league in 1995. In the course of the 1996/97 season, Landshut withdrew from the game, Schäfer-Tsahe went to Northern Germany and ended the season at BCJ Hamburg in the 2nd basketball league .

For the 1997/98 season he moved to the Austrian Bundesliga club Oberwart and stayed there until 1999. In 1999, he won the national cup competition with Burgenland. After three seasons in his home country (2000 to 2003 with the second division BBC Bayreuth ) he moved back to Austria. Between 2003 and 2007 he strengthened the Bundesliga club UKJ St. Pölten under the basket, in the 2007/08 season Schäfer-Tsahe was again employed in Oberwart in a second term and at the end of his competitive sports career played for the Güssing Knights in the Bundesliga.

After the end of his career, he worked as a sports teacher at the popular sports association Sportunion Burgenland. He remained connected to basketball as a coach of the Burgenland youth team, as a coach in Güssing and at the Jennersdorf Blackbirds.
