The Basketball Bundesliga (Austria) (current name: Basketball Superliga ) is the highest basketball division in Austria .
history
Until 1998, the league was run by the Austrian Basketball Association , from 1998 to 2019 it was independent and independent of the association. Until the 2004/05 season it was called the A-League, and until the 2008/09 season it was called the Austrian Basketball Bundesliga (ÖBL). From the 2008/09 season the name of the league sponsor was included in the league name , from then on the main sponsor Admiral Sportwetten was part of the name Admiral Basketball Bundesliga (ABL). On July 1, 2019, the management of the game operations went back to the association, the league name was changed to Superliga .
From 2004 Spalding was a sponsor of the ABL. Snickers has sponsored the playoffs since 2011 , and the partnership with the ABL has been extended until the 2017/18 season.
With the reintegration into the association and the name change on July 1, 2019, a contract was signed with the television broadcaster Sky until 2022, which had already offered broadcasts of Bundesliga basketball games. among other things, the plan was to broadcast up to 48 league games per season in direct broadcast. The 2019/20 season ended prematurely in mid-March 2020 due to the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus . There was therefore no national champion in 2019/20. At the time of the cancellation, the Klosterneuburg Dukes had the best record and first place in the table with 18 wins and five defeats. In April 2020, an agreement was concluded with the betting provider Bet-at-home after Novomatic had previously withdrawn with the brand name Admiral. The company also found its way into the league name, henceforth Bet-at-home Basketball Superleague .
Game mode
Nine teams take part in the Austrian basketball league. In the basic round there are 32 rounds on the game board. The first six teams of the regular season qualify for the play-off . The quarter-finals are played according to the best-of-three , the semi-finals are played according to the best-of-five - and the final is played according to the best-of-seven mode to determine the champion.
