Stjepan Stazic (born September 28, 1978 in Zagreb ) is an Austrian basketball player .

Career

The son of a Croat and a Serb came to Vienna in 1991. In 1997 he became Austrian champion with UKJ St. Pölten . Then he moved to the reigning Italian champion Pallacanestro Treviso , with whom he won the Supercup. In 1998 he went to Nuova Pallacanestro Gorizia . After a positive doping test on Clostebol - the drug was prescribed by the club's doctor - he was banned in Italy for two years in March 1999. That is why he moved to Limoges CSP in France. With the club he won the French Championship, the Cup and the Korać Cup in 2000 .

2000/01 he was offered a three-year contract for the NBA by the New York Knicks . But when he tore his cruciate ligament during a game for the Austrian national team , these plans came to nothing. This was followed by positions with the Saint Petersburg Lions , Viola Reggio Calabria , Traiskirchen Lions , Olympia Larisa , BK Klosterneuburg , Club Ourense Baloncesto , Snaidero Cucine Udine , KK Igokea , Universitet Yugra , Panthers Fürstenfeld and from 2010 BC Vienna . In addition to his role as a player, he took on tasks in marketing and as a managing board member for the Viennese, while his brother Petar became the club's manager. In 2013 he won the Austrian championship as captain with the team.

In the 2017/18 season, Stazic was named Player of the Year in the Bundesliga and achieved the highest average points in the league with 24 points per game. During the 2018/19 game year, he had to forego almost all of the Bundesliga matches due to a knee injury, he only came on a brief assignment.
