career

Stahl, who completed a sports degree in his hometown of Würzburg after graduating from the Julius Maximilians University , was a youth coach at DJK Würzburg and Dirk Nowitzki's first club coach in the D-Jugend . As a player (position: playmaker) Stahl was active for Würzburg and Chemnitz in the 2nd basketball league and in the regional league. He also made it into the German national youth team.

In 1994 he became the head coach of the Würzburg men's team in the second division and remained in office until 1996. In the 1998/99 season (the first after promotion to the Bundesliga) he was assistant to Würzburg's coach Klaus Perneker , then head coach again in 1999/2000, and again "Co" in the 2000/01 season (this time under Canadian Gordon Herbert ), before he worked again as head coach at the beginning of the 2001/02 season, then moved in December 2001 to the post of assistant to the new Würzburg coach Mindaugas Lukošius . In addition to his coaching activity in Würzburg, Stahl was also a member of the Bavarian Basketball Association.

Between 2002 and 2005 he was the head coach of the Austrian Bundesliga club Oberwart Gunners and led the Burgenlanders to third place in the championship and the cup final in 2004. In the same year, the Bundesliga was voted “Trainer of the Year”, and the internet service eurobasket.com also presented him with this award. In 2005, Oberwart won the Austrian cup competition under Stahl's leadership, and they also became runner-up. As in the previous year, Stahl received the title of “Trainer of the Year” in the Bundesliga from eurobasket.com .

In 2006 and 2007 he coached the Austrian U18 and U20 national teams. In addition, Stahl took over the head coach position of the Panthers Fürstenfeld for the 2006/07 season , and in December 2007 he was dismissed by the East Styrians.

In the first half of the 2008/09 season, steel first trained the Hungarian first division club Dombovar KC and switched to league competitor Ved Kormend in January 2009, where he was in office until the end of the season.

For the 2009/10 season steel returned to Oberwart, but was replaced by Neno Asceric in February 2010 due to a lack of sporting success .

From 2010 to 2013 he worked as head coach for another Bundesliga club in Austria, UBSC Graz . He led the club to its greatest successes in club history to date, namely among the top four teams in the cup competition, in the Bundesliga playoffs (both in 2011) and in the 2012 cup final.

In 2013 Stahl returned to his hometown of Würzburg, became sports coordinator at the Bundesliga club s.Oliver Würzburg and temporarily also stepped in as an assistant coach. The contract was terminated in July 2014.

In the 2015/16 season he played a second term as head coach of UBSC Graz, in July 2016 he was again signed by the Panthers Fürstenfeld as a coach and stayed until the end of the 2016/17 season. In March 2019, Stahl stepped in as a trainer in Fürstenfeld after Adnan Bajramovic was dismissed. In May 2019, Stahl took over the office of chairman in Fürstenfeld. In this position, Stahl had to accept the license refusal for the top division of Austria with the Fürstenfeldern at the beginning of August 2019 and was henceforth represented in the second division.
