Klaus Perneker

Klaus Perneker (born June 23,  1966 in Forchheim ) is a German basketball coach .

career

Perneker only started playing basketball at the age of 17. The builder and winger was active with Jahn Forchheim, TSV Ebermannstadt, TSV Breitengüßbach , before moving to DJK Würzburg in 1990  , for which he played in the 2nd basketball league  . Even while he was playing, Perneker was also involved as a coach in the youth field. After studying chemistry and biology as a teacher, he worked as a trainee lawyer at the X-ray high school in Würzburg, temporarily supervising Dirk Nowitzki as a tutor and as a trainer for the school team.

From 1996 Perneker was  assistant coach of the Würzburg second division team under Holger Geschwindner , in 1997 he moved to the head coach position. In 1997/98 he led the DJK with Nowitzki, Robert Garett , Burkhard Steinbach and Demond Greene  to promotion to the basketball league . Under Perneker's leadership, the Würzburg team finished the 1998/99 Bundesliga season as a new league player in fifth place. During his time as head coach of the DJK men, Perneker was employed full-time as a high school teacher at the Steigerwald-Landschulheim Wiesentheid.In 1999, he decided to become a teacher and retired from professional basketball, but continued to train youth and school teams.

In 2005 he turned down the offer to take over the Würzburg team again as head coach in the second division.
