Burkhard Steinbach

Burkhard Steinbach (born July 30,  1970 in Würzburg ) is a former German basketball player . He played 139 games for DJK Würzburg in the basketball league .

career

Steinbach, who grew up in Obbach , began playing basketball at the DJK Schweinfurt at the age of 18 , then played in Triesdorf and at TSV Ansbach , before moving to the second division club DJK Würzburg in 1992. The 2.12 meter tall indoor player rose to the basketball Bundesliga with the Würzburg team in 1998 alongside Dirk Nowitzki, among others . In his debut season in the top German division, Steinbach scored an average of 8.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per encounter in 28 missions in 1998/99. These mean values ​​should be the best of his Bundesliga years. By 2003 he played 139 Bundesliga games, his best scores were 19 points (against Leverkusen in September 1998) and 14 rebounds (against Oberelchingen in October 1998). In addition, he came with Würzburg to appearances in the European Cup. Steinbach, who worked as a farmer in addition to his basketball career, was a crowd favorite in Würzburg and was known by the nickname "Colossus of Moos".

In the 2003/04 season he played at the second division club TSV Breitengüßbach , was in the service of TSV Nördlingen (also second division) in the 2004/05 season, and in 2005/06 he strengthened USC Mainfranken in the second division. He then retired to the regional league and ran for TV Marktheidenfeld in the 2006/07 season.

In 2007 he returned to the DJK Schweinfurt and was active as a player-coach in the 2nd regional league. In the old men area he played for the TG Würzburg and came with the team to German championship honors.
