The 2016/17 ABL season is the 71st season of the Admiral Basketball Bundesliga . The defending champions are the Oberwart Gunners . The Kapfenberg Bulls won the cup in the final with 77:60 against the Gunners Oberwart. In the championship, the Kapfenberg Bulls under head coach Michael Stepwieser prevailed in the final series against the defending champions Oberwart Gunners 4-1. Predag ​​Miletic from BC Vienna was voted the most valuable player of the season.

Game mode 2016/17

Nine teams will take part in the Admiral Basketball Bundesliga (ABL) in 2016/17. In the basic round 32 games are played, each team plays a total of four competitive games against each opponent. The first six teams of the regular season are qualified for the play-off: Oberwart Gunners , Gmunden Swans , Kapfenberg Bulls , BC Vienna , Wels and Traiskirchen Lions . The quarter-finals are played according to the best-of-three mode, the semi-finals are played according to the best-of-five mode and the final according to the best-of-seven mode to determine the champion.

Attendees

The field of participants has been reduced from ten to nine teams compared to the previous season . In April 2016, during the 2015/16 season, the Güssing Knights ' Bundesliga license was withdrawn for financial reasons and the game had to be stopped.
