The Austrian Basketball Bundesliga got a league sponsor in the 2008/09 season and is using this in its name for the first time in history. The league was renamed "Admiral Basketball Bundesliga" (ABL).
The Gmunden Swans hall was enlarged to 2500 seats and was sold out twice in the finals against the WBC Kraftwerk Wels .
The All-Star-Game 2009 took place for the first time in the 10,000-seat Wiener Stadthalle. The winners were the All Stars (all players with non-European citizenship) in the game against the Euro Stars (all players with European citizenship) in front of about 4000 spectators.
Game mode 2008/09
In 2008/09 12 teams took part in the Austrian basketball league. In the basic round there are 22 rounds on the game board. The first six teams qualify for the main round (H1), in which all results achieved up to then are "taken".
In the main round, 10 rounds are played. The six teams of the H1 are firmly qualified for the quarter-finals, in addition, the first two of the H2 qualify for the quarter-finals. In the quarter-finals, the first of the H1 will play against the second of the H2, the second of the H1 against the first of the H2, the third of the H1 against the sixth of the H1 and the fourth of the H1 against the fifth of the H1. (Best of Five each) The semifinals and the finals are also each played best of five.
