Snickers is a chocolate bar with caramel , peanuts and a soft, white nougat- like mixture. It is sold by the US company Mars Incorporated .

history

Snickers was developed in 1929 by Frank Mars (1883–1934) and his wife Ethel. The name comes from the family's favorite horse of the same name. The bar was introduced to the public in 1930 and is now the best-selling bar in the United States. In 1968 the Snickers bars were also introduced in Germany . By 1990 Snickers was sold under the name Marathon in the UK and Ireland .

In the 1980s, Snickers was advertised in Germany with the slogan “Snickers - when hunger comes”; in the 1990s with "If it takes longer - grab 'n Snickers!". The slogan "Snickers: And the hunger is eaten" has been used since the 2000s. The company is currently advertising in commercials with the slogan "You are not you when you are hungry". Since the end of 2016 there has been a commercial with Rowan Atkinson in his star role of Mr. Bean under this slogan.

Appearance

The packaging of Snickers bars has changed over the years: While Snickers was still wrapped in a mostly red-brown paper sleeve until the 1980s, today it is delivered in largely chocolate-brown foil packaging. As ancillary varieties there are Snickers Cruncher , the Snickers Ice Cream Snack , the Snickers 2PACK with two slightly smaller bars, the much smaller Snickers mini and the Snickers Maximus without white mass, but with more peanuts and caramel.
