Frank C. Mars

Franklin Clarence Mars (born September 24, 1883 in Newport , Minnesota , † April 8, 1934 in Pulaski , Tennessee ) was an American entrepreneur and the inventor of some well-known chocolate bars , including Milky Way and Snickers .

Life

In 1911, he and his wife, Ethel , began producing confectionery in Tacoma , Washington . The bars with caramel cream were first made in the local kitchen. Mars founded Mar-O-Bar Co. in Minnesota in 1920. Mars changed the company name to Mars Incorporated in 1922 and launched the Milky Way candy bar in 1923 , which was a great success. Other popular chocolate bars followed, in 1930 Snickers and in 1937 the 5 cent Three Musketeers , which contained three bars with different tastes.

Mars bought a few small farms in Pulaski and built his farm Milky Way on the site , where he ran cattle and horses.
