Horst Leitner

Horst Leitner (born May 9, 1981 ) is an Austrian basketball coach .

career

As a player, Leitner played for the offspring of UBSC Oberwart and later in the adult division for the Oberwart Gunners and in the B-Bundesliga for the Güssing Knights .

He worked as a trainer and coordinator in the youth sector in Oberwart. In 2010 and 2011 he took on managerial roles in Oberwart's Bundesliga team. In 2012 he passed the test for the A-trainer license. In summer 2014 he was in charge of Austria's U16 national team at the B-European Championship and in summer 2015 the U18 team at the B-EM in his hometown of Oberwart .

In the summer of 2017, Leitner became assistant coach of the Oberwart Gunners' fighting team in the Bundesliga. In mid-March 2018, Leitner took over the position of head coach at the Oberwart Gunners after the team management parted with Lluis Pino Vera. In June 2018 he was permanently employed as head coach. In the 2018/19 season he was named Bundesliga coach of the year after leading Oberwart to the semi-finals in both the league and the cup.
