Matthias Josef Zollner (born May 9, 1981 ) is a German basketball coach.

career

Zollner comes from Dachau and is a trained physiotherapist. Until 2009 he coached the TSV Dachau men's team in the first regional league. From 2009 to 2012 he was the coach of München Basket (also the first regional league), at the same time he worked in the field of coach training for the European basketball association FIBA ​​Europe . In 2013 he was signed by the Austrian Bundesliga club UBC Güssing and led the team to the Austrian championship titles in 2014 and 2015 (2015 also cup winners). In the 2014/15 season, Güssing was among the best 16 teams in the European club competition EuroChallenge under Zollner's direction . In the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons he was named “Coach of the Year” in the Bundesliga. In February 2016, the financially troubled Güssinger parted ways with Zollner for cost reasons. The club's license was revoked in April 2016. Subsequently, he temporarily appeared as an expert on basketball broadcasts on the Austrian television broadcaster Sky and became the managing director of a company in Frankfurt am Main , which, among other things, offers consulting and marketing services for sports clubs, associations and athletes.

In August 2018 he accepted the position as head coach of KB Pristina in Kosovo . He led the team to win the Supercup, after a total of five competitive games, four of which were won, there was a separation between Zollner and the club after a 44-day term in office at the beginning of October 2018. At the end of November 2018, he took up the post of head coach of the Hungarian first division club Egis Körmend . He led the team to victory in the Alpe Adria Cup in the 2018/19 season .

At the end of May 2020, Zollner was introduced as the new coach of the Polish first division club GTK Gliwice.

National team

In 2012, Zollner was Svetislav Pesic's assistant coach on the staff of the German senior national team.

At the beginning of October 2017, he took over the position of head coach of the Austrian senior national team. On April 25, 2018, the Austrian Basketball Association announced the premature separation from Zollner. This was done by mutual agreement, it said in a statement by the association.
