The Basketball Superleague ( Russian : Баскетбольная суперлига) is a basketball league in Russia . Behind the VTB United League , it is the second highest division for Russian club teams.
history
Until 2010 it represented the top division of Russia. After the news of a manipulation scandal in which officials of the Russian Basketball Association were involved, ten teams from the men's Superleague A resigned in June 2010 to establish the independent Professionalnaja Basketbolnaya League . The division of the men's Superleague by division was then dissolved. For women, the Superleague was retained as the top division until the 2011/12 season. From the 2012/13 season, the Premier League was introduced as the top division for women. The Superleague remained the second highest division for men and women.
