BK Ural Yekaterinburg ( Russian Урал Екатеринбург ) is a professional basketball club of the Russian Superleague A from Yekaterinburg , Russia .

history

Ural Yekaterinburg was founded in 2006 as the successor to earlier, partly renowned, basketball clubs from Yekaterinburg, formerly Sverdlovsk. One of his predecessors, Uralmash Sverdlovsk, was a 20-time champion of the Russian Federation during the Soviet era and produced several world and Olympic champions, such as B. Stanislaw Jerjomin , Sergei Below or Iwan Dworny .

After the re-establishment, Ural started in the Superliga B, at that time the second Russian division. After the establishment of the PBL , the club played in the Superliga A, which Ural won in 2012 and 2013. In the 2011/12 season, the club made it to the Final Four of the Russian Cup. After this season, Yekaterinburg was allowed to start qualifying for the EuroChallenge 2012/13 , but was defeated by the Romanian Gaz Metan Mediaș . For the 2013/14 season Ural got the right to start the group stage of the Eurochallenge.
