The Palace of Game Sports "Uralochka" (DIWS) ( Russian Дворец игровых видов спорта "Уралочка" (ДИВС) ) is a multifunctional arena on the banks of the Isset River in the city center of Yekaterinburg . It has a capacity of 5000 spectators and is the second major sports arena in the city after the KRK Uralez . Volleyball and basketball clubs for men and women as well as a futsal team play their home games here. Occasionally find competitions in individual sports , gymnastics , gymnastics instead or tennis. Concerts also take place in the arena.

history

For a long time there was only one large sports arena in Yekaterinburg - the KRK Uralez , built in 1972 (then: Sports Palace of the Trade Unions) . This was overloaded with the various sporting events in the city and also needed renovation. Therefore, the government of the Sverdlovsk Oblast under the then governor Eduard Rossel decided in March 2000 to build a new sports arena. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 5, 2001. The Austrian E. Fuhrmann Baugesellschaft was commissioned with the construction work . The construction was fully financed by private investors. The metallurgy company UGMK borne a large part of the construction costs . The planned costs of 17 million dollars in 2002 are likely to have increased significantly; the costs for the arena (block A) alone were estimated at 14.5 million euros. Today the sports arena is owned by the arena organization, which is owned by the Sverdlovsk Oblast.

The Sports Palace was officially opened on June 11, 2003. On that day, the first match of the first volleyball tournament, the Yeltsin Cup, took place, at which the first Russian President Boris Yeltsin and then Chairman of the State Sports Committee and later Minister of Sports Vyacheslav Fetissov were present.

In addition to the sports arena (Bock A), the planning also envisaged an administration and training complex (Block B) in the immediate vicinity from the start. This building is directly connected to the arena on the second floor with a walkway. On a good 8000 m² it houses the arena administration, the sports hotel "DIVS" with 32 double rooms, medical, meeting and training rooms (including three volleyball fields), a room for press conferences and a bistro. The multi-purpose building was inaugurated in July 2006.

In the winter of 2014, the outside of the arena roof was again covered with orange tarpaulin, which is the club color of the women's basketball team UGMK Yekaterinburg .

Technical specifications

The sports arena (block A) is 29.1 m high, has the basic shape of an ellipse with a width of 68 m and a length of 84 m and a total area of approx. 20,800 m². 1720 m² of this is accounted for by the sports area and 1004 m² by the playing field. The ceiling height is 21 m. The audience is generally given as 5000. There are 4802 seats in the arena, 1108 of which are on the sliding telescopic grandstands in the lower rows.

location

The sports arena is located in the eastern part of the " Zheleznodorozhny " district at ul. Eremina 10 ( ул. Ереминa 10 ) in the city center. It is located on the bank of the historic lake created by the damming of the Isset River . There is direct access to the promenade for pedestrians. Next to the new sports complex is the constructivist sports complex Dinamo .

The sports palace is well connected to the city's public transport. The "Dinamo" metro station is right in front of the entrance to the arena. A trolleybus line 4 stop is just 300 meters away, and the nearest tram stop, Uprawlenije Dorogi, is 600 meters away.
