Eduard Ergartowitsch Rossel ( Russian Эдуард Эргартович Россель , scientific transliteration Ėduard Ėrgartovič Rossel ' ; born October 8, 1937 in Bor bei Gorki ) is a Russian politician of German origin and was governor of Sverdlovsk Oblast from 1995 to 2009 . He is a member of the Federation Council , the upper house of the Russian parliament .

In 1962 Rossel graduated from the Ural State Mining University.

Rossel is one of the most influential and well-known local politicians in Russia and has a rather poor political relationship with President Vladimir Putin . He was considered an ungovernable governor (ungovernable head of government).

In 2008 he was awarded the Medal of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg , and in 2019 he received the Demidow Prize of the Russian Academy of Sciences .

In December 2009, by decree of the new governor of Sverdlovsk Oblast, Rossel was appointed representative of the region in the Federation Council of the Russian Federation. He has a PhD in engineering and economics. He is also a member of the Russian Academy of Engineering and the International Academy for Regional Cooperation and Development.
