Damir Zeleznik

Damir Zeleznik (born April 3, 1980 in Sarajevo ) is a Bosnian - Slovenian - Austrian basketball coach and former player.

career

Zeleznik was born in Sarajevo . He played soccer at Zeleznicar Sarajevo and, according to his own account, had an offer from Eintracht Frankfurt when he was 13 . Due to the Bosnian War, he grew up partly in the Slovenian Portorož and received the citizenship of Slovenia . He started playing basketball in Portorož, and from 1997 to 2004 the 1.85 meter tall player was in the service of Bosna Sarajevo.

In 2004 he moved to the BSC Raiffeisen Fürstenfeld Panthers in the Bundesliga and was voted the best European player in the 2004/05 league by the basketball service eurobasket.com in his first year in the Bundesliga . He played for the Styrians until 2007. From 2007 to 2009 he was under contract with the Kapfenberg Bulls .

In the 2009/10 season he played for UBSC Graz . In March 2010 he tore a cruciate ligament.

In September 2010, Zeleznik, who excelled in particular as a basket preparer and was one of the best Bundesliga players in this regard, was signed by BK Klosterneuburg . In 2012 he won the Austrian championship title with the team. In January 2013, Zeleznik led Klosterneuburg to win the first cup title in the club's history and was named the best player of the finals.

In July 2014, he took on Austrian citizenship. In December 2014, Zeleznik ended his competitive sports career for health reasons and stayed as an assistant coach in Klosterneuburg after having worked as an individual coach for the club since the beginning of the 2014/15 season. In 2018 he received a contract as a full-time coach in Klosterneuburg and should be built up as the successor to Werner Sallomon .
