There he missed the second round in the two individual competitions, in the team competition the Slovenian team landed in sixth place. By the end of the season he was able to take several places in the top third, but at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein he was only 15th and 19th. After taking part in two team competitions in the Summer Grand Prix in 1999, he entered the In the winter of 1999/2000 he was back in the World Cup, where he initially performed well and placed in the top twenty in all competitions. Towards the end of winter, however, his form deteriorated and he missed the second round in all competitions. In the summer of 2000 he took part in several Grand Prix competitions, an eleventh place in Courchevel being his best result. As in the previous year, he showed stable performance among the top twenty in the 2000/01 World Cup at the beginning of the season and deteriorated at the end of the season. For the Nordic World Ski Championships 2001 in Lahti he was not nominated. In the summer of 2001 he took part again in the Grand Prix, at its final competition on September 9, 2001 in Hakuba , with third place, he was able to achieve a podium position in an individual competition for the first time. After taking part in the Continental Cup in Velenje again in the summer of 2003, he was unable to convince at the Grand Prix and almost always ended up in the rear. After finishing eleventh in Oberstdorf, he finally took fifth place in the jumping in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , three days later, on January 4, 2004, he won the third competition in Innsbruck . This success was Žonta's only victory in a world cup competition. With a second place in Bischofshofen , he secured third place in the tour evaluation. After finishing eighth twice at the next competitions in Liberec , he was able to consistently jump into the top twenty until the end of the season. Only at the ski flying world championship in 2004 in Planica he was only 46. After he had started again at the Continental Cup in Velenje in summer 2003, he had quite mixed performances at the Grand Prix. In the 2004/05 season he had severe knee problems and always fought for the individual in the second round. At the beginning of February he ended the season prematurely to have his knee operated on. After that he was out for a long period of time and did not return to the Continental Cup until the end of December 2006. At the beginning of February 2007 he returned to the World Cup in Titisee-Neustadt and shortly afterwards to compete in the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo . Here he was 30th on the normal hill and 39th on the large hill. The Slovenian team to which he belonged was only tenth behind. After he was able to celebrate a victory at a Continental Cup in Vikersund shortly after the World Cup , he ended his career after the 2006/07 season.
