Bayano Kamani
Bayano Kamani (born April 17, 1980 in Houston , United States ) is a Panamanian athlete who finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2004 Olympic Games .
Kamani's father was from Panama and his mother from Barbados . Kamani first competed for the United States, only taking over his father's citizenship in 2003. As a student at Baylor University , he won the NCAA student championships in 1999 and 2001 , and at the 1999 Universiade he finished second for the USA in 48.74 seconds behind Poland's Paweł Januszewski .
In his first major championship in the Panama jersey, he won the South American Championship in Barquisimeto in 2003 . In the following year he increased his personal best and the Panamanian national record to 48.23 seconds, in the finals of the Olympic Games he finished fifth in 48.74 seconds. At the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki, he won his semifinals in 47.84 seconds, the fastest time of his career. In the final he got out of step and finished seventh in 50.18 seconds. In 2006 he won the Central American and Caribbean Championships in 49.44 seconds. In 2007 he finished second at the Pan American Games in 48.70 seconds behind Canadian Adam Kunkel . At the 2007 World Championships , Kamani was eliminated in the semifinals, just like a year later at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
At a height of 1.88 m, his competition weight is 79 kg.
