Kent Bernard

Kent Bernard ( Kent Bede Bernard ; born May 27, 1942 in Port of Spain ) is a former sprinter from Trinidad and Tobago .

Bernard became known to the public when he won the Victor Ludorum Games at Belmont Intermediate School in 1959 and 1960. He then became a member of the Burnley Athletics School under coach Georges Clarkes . From Trinidad he received a scholarship to Michigan State University . He represented his university with such success that he was elected to the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic team. With this team he won the bronze medal in the 4 x 400 meter relay at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, along with his teammates Edwin Skinner , Edwin Roberts and Wendell Mottley , behind the teams from the United States (gold) and the United Kingdom (silver).

In 1966 he won the silver medal in the 440-yard run at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston , behind his compatriot Mottley (gold) and ahead of the Canadian Don Domansky , as well as the gold medal in the 4-by-440-yard relay. At the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970 , he won silver in the 4-by-400-meter relay.
