Don Domansky

Bohdan "Don" Domansky (born August 11, 1946 in Ulm ) is a former Canadian athlete, development worker and university lecturer for computer science .

Career

Born in Germany to Ukrainian parents on the run, he grew up in Port Arthur , Ontario , Canada . After graduating from commercial high school ( Port Arthur Collegiate Institute ), he was awarded an athletics scholarship as a hopeful sprinter at UCLA in the fall of 1964 , where he (together with Arnd Krüger ) was part of the first team that Jim Bush put together himself. Here he was American champion in the four years at UCLA, ran faster than the world record with the 4-by-110-yard relay (with him as a Canadian and Bernard Okoye as a Nigerian, this was not recognized as a world record). He represented Canada at the Olympic Games in 1968 and 1976 (4 × 400 m relay 4th in the finals), at the Commonwealth Games in 1966 (silver medal 4 × 400 m relay, bronze 400 m individual) and in 1970, the Pan American Games 1967 (bronze 400 m) and 1975 (silver 4 × 400 m). He was the Canadian record holder over 400 meters from 1967 to 1977. The Canadian record in the 4 x 400 meter relay from the 1976 Olympic finals is still (2014) unbroken. His best times were 21.0 s and 45.8 s (44.3 s in the 1966 Commonwealth Games season). He was three times Canadian champion (200 and 400 m).

Professional career

Domansky pursued a dual career . After his bachelor's degree at UCLA's Anderson School of Business (specializing in quantitative analysis , mathematics and philosophy ) (1968) he returned to Thunder Bay , worked as a full-time vice president of the Ontario Athletics and Swimming Association, as a consultant for sports facility construction and national trainer (Ontario) for sprint. He became a lecturer (later professor ) in computer science at the International Business Programs Institute of Confederation College in Thunder Bay. Here he was responsible, among other things, for the Small Business and Economic Development Project (SBEDIF), with which microcredits are given for economic development as part of development aid and appropriate advice and evaluation takes place. After 1990 he was mainly responsible for development projects in western Ukraine as part of this program.
