Eugene "Gene" Samuel (born October 14, 1961 ) is a cyclist from Trinidad and Tobago .

In 1987 Gene Samuel finished second in the 1000 m time trial at the Pan American Games in Indianapolis , four years later in Havana he won this discipline and another four years later he was third again in Mar del Plata . In 1991 he took third place over the amateurs' kilometer at the World Railroad Championships in Stuttgart .

Samuel took part in the Olympic Games four times between 1984 and 1996. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , he finished fourth in the time trial. At the 1996 Games in Atlanta he was the flag bearer of the national team.

Gene Samuel won a total of 65 national titles in the sprint , time trial, points trial, pursuit and ten mile track disciplines . In 2008 he was third in the national road championships. In the same year he won the "Easter Grand Prix" in his home country.

Today Samuel, called "Bike Doctor", runs a bike shop in Port of Spain and looks after his own team. His son Gevan Samuel is also a successful racing driver who occasionally races against his own father.

In January 2016, Gene Samuel was mugged when he was replacing a defective tire on his car. The perpetrators threatened him with a gun and robbed him of jewelry and cash. When they aimed at him again, Samuel drew his own gun, shot one of the perpetrators several times and injured him.
