Deon Christopher Lendore (born October 28, 1992 in Arima ) is a sprinter from Trinidad and Tobago who specializes in the 400-meter run .

Athletic career

Deon Lendore gained his first international experience at the CARIFTA Games 2008 in Basseterre , where he finished fourth over 400 meters and won the silver medal behind Jamaica with the relay. In 2009 he took part in the youth world championships in Brixen and reached the semi-finals there. He also took fifth place in the sprint relay (1000 meters) in the final. At the Pan American Junior Championships in Port of Spain he was eliminated in the individual competition in the first round. In 2010 he won the silver medal in the individual competition and bronze with the relay at the CARIFTA Games in George Town . He then won the bronze medal in singles and gold with the relay at the Central America and Caribbean Junior Championships in Santo Domingo . He qualified for the Junior World Championships in Moncton , where he reached the semi-finals in the 400-meter run and was eliminated with the Trinidad and Tobago relay with 3: 10.87 minutes in the first round.

In 2011 he won bronze in singles at the CARIFTA Games in Montego Bay and gold in the relay. Then he was Pan-American runner-up junior champion at the championships in Miramar behind the US-American Joshua Mance . With the relay, the team from Trinidad and Tobago also secured silver behind the United States, as well as at the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Mayagüez , where the relay only had to admit defeat to the Bahamians. The relay qualified for the World Championships in Daegu , where they eliminated with 3: 02.47 min in the lead. At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 , he was eliminated with 45.81 s in the lead over 400 meters. In the 4 x 400 meter relay , he won the bronze medal behind the Bahamas and the United States with the Trinidadian team in a new national record of 2: 59.40 minutes in the final .

In 2013 he reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Moscow and retired from the relay in 3: 00.48 minutes in advance. At the 2015 World Championships in Beijing , he won the silver medal behind the team from the USA with his country's 4 x 400 meter relay with a new national record of 2: 58.20 minutes in the final . In 2016 he qualified for the first time for the World Indoor Championships in Portland , where he won the bronze medal in the 400-meter run in 46.17 seconds and also bronze in the relay in 3: 05.51 minutes. During the outdoor season he qualified again for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated in the individual competition with 46.15 s in the first round and was disqualified with the relay in the run-up for a track violation.

In 2017, he took part in the run-up to the World Relays in the Bahamas , in which the season reached fourth place in the final. In 2018 he again won the bronze medal over 400 meters at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham in 46.37 seconds and finished fourth in the relay in 3: 02.52 minutes. He then took part with the relay for the first time in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast and finished fourth there with 3: 02.85 min in the final.

At the IAAF World Relays 2019 in Yokohama, he surprisingly won the title in the 4 x 400 meter relay together with Jereem Richards , Asa Guevara and Machel Cedenio .

In 2013 and 2018 Lendore was the Trinidadian-Tobagian champion in the 400-meter run and in 2012 with the 4-by-400-meter relay. He is a student at Texas A&M University .
