Arima is the name of a city in Trinidad and Tobago and the associated borough (administrative district) The Royal Chartered Borough of Arima . The village is the fifth largest in the country.

location

Arima is centrally located in the northern part of the island of Trinidad , south of the Northern Range . The capital of Trinidad and Tobago, Port of Spain , is 26 kilometers to the west. Arima marks the eastern end of the East-West Corridor , the densely populated metropolitan area of ​​Port of Spain.

history

Arima was founded by the Capuchins in 1757 . In 1785 it became the last Arawak Reserve in Trinidad, as all other known tribes were relocated to Arima by Governor José María Chacón to provide settlement land for Catholics of French descent. In 2012 a Martian crater was named after the city.

Facilities

In Arima is the Arima Velodrome , a 440-meter-long, open-air concrete cycle track , one of three cycle tracks in Trinidad. The Santa Rosa Park is also the only racecourse in Trinidad in Arima. The Larry Gomes Stadium is a football stadium with 10,000 seats, which for the 2001 FIFA U-17 World Championship was built, is home to the football club Caledonia AIA and is also used for Leichtathlethikveranstaltungen.
