The Larry Gomes Stadium is a football stadium with athletics track in Arima in Trinidad and Tobago . The facility, built in 2001, has a capacity of 10,000 seats.
location
Arima is centrally located in the north of the island of Trinidad , in the middle of the East-West Corridor , the agglomeration of the Trinidadian capital Port of Spain, 30 kilometers to the west . The Larry Gomes Stadium is located in the southwest of Arima in the Marabar district. Residential areas extend to the north and east, industrial areas to the west and south. The stadium is connected to the East-West Corridor via the Churchill Roosevelt Highway , which runs a few hundred meters south .
history
Larry Gomes Stadium was built in 2001 for the U-17 World Cup . It is named after the cricketer Larry Gomes (actually Hilary Angelo Gomes ), who became vice world champion in 1983 with the West Indies cricket team . In 2010 the Larry Gomes Stadium hosted the U-17 Women's World Cup . The Larry Gomes Stadium is the home ground of the Caledonia AIA football club .
