Jereem Richards (born January 13, 1994 in Point Fortin ) is a sprinter from Trinidad and Tobago who specializes in the 200-meter run and is also successful as a relay runner.

Athletic career

Jereem Richards gained his first experience in international championships at the CARIFTA Games 2011 in Montego Bay , where he finished sixth over 400 meters and won the gold medal with the 4 x 400 meter relay. Later he took part in the Youth World Championships in Lille , where he reached the semi-finals over 200 meters and took sixth place in the final with the Trinidadian-Tobacco sprint relay (1000 meters). In 2012 he qualified with the relay for the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul , where he won the bronze medal behind the teams from the United States and the United Kingdom. At the CARIFTA Games in Hamilton he was fifth over 200 meters and won the silver medal with the relay. He qualified for the Junior World Championships in Barcelona and won the bronze medal there with the relay. In 2013, Richards won the bronze medal over 200 meters and the silver medals over both relay distances at the CARIFTA Games in Nassau . At the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Morelia , he won the bronze medal with the 4 x 100 meter relay. 2014 he took over 200 meters at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland Glasgow part and retired there with 21.13 s in the first round.

In 2017 he finished fourth in the 4 x 400 meter relay at the World Relays in the Bahamas . He also qualified for the first time for the World Championships in London , where he surprisingly won the bronze medal in the final over 200 meters. He also won the gold medal in the 4 x 400 meter relay in front of the United States and Great Britain. In 2018 he took part with the relay at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham and finished fourth there in the final. In April he won the gold medal over 200 meters in 20.12 seconds at the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast in front of the Canadian Aaron Brown . On the final day of the games, he reached fourth place with the Trinidadian-Tobag relay.

At the IAAF World Relays 2019 in Yokohama, he surprisingly won the title in the 4 x 400 meter relay together with Deon Lendore , Asa Guevara and Machel Cedenio .

In 2017, Richards became the Trinidadian-Tobagian champion over 200 meters and in 2012 with the 4 x 100 meter relay. He first attended South Plains College and then studied environmental science at the University of Alabama .
