Roberto Quiroz Gómez (born February 23, 1992 in Guayaquil ) is an Ecuadorian tennis player .

Personal

Quiroz is trained by his uncle, former world-class player Andrés Gómez . His cousin Emilio Gómez is also a tennis player. With the help of a scholarship , he studied social and economic sciences at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles , California from 2011 to 2015 .

Career

Juniors

Quiroz can look back on a very successful career as a junior. At the side of Duilio Beretta , he won the French Open junior doubles in 2010 . Later that year he won the same title at the US Open . In 2010 he was also active at the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore . He lost his first game in doubles.

college

Quiroz played college tennis for the USC Trojans from spring 2012 and was eligible to play until May 2015. With his doubles partner Steve Johnson he celebrated some successes after a short time and placed himself in second place in the ITA doubles ranking . In singles he won the clay court tournament in Florida in 2012 and 2013 . In May 2014 he became American team champion with the Trojans . In November 2014 he became the American indoor doubles champion alongside Yannick Hanfmann .

professional

He played his first individual in professional tennis in August 2007 when he lost his first round game to Juan Sebastián Cabal at the Future tournament in Guayaquil . In November 2008, he made his debut on the ATP Challenger Tour , where he failed in qualification to Jean-René Lisnard . Thanks to a wildcard , he was in the main round of a challenger for the first time at the tournament in Guayaquil in November . He lost his opening game against the Argentine Mariano Zabaleta . In 2014 he won his first individual tournament on the Future Tour in Maracaibo .

His dual career has been much more successful so far. As a 14-year-old he made his debut in the main draw of a challenger in November 2006, with the first game against the duo Fabio Fognini and Niko Karagiannis clearly lost. At the side of his cousin Emilio Gómez, he won his first future tournament in Bauru in October 2009 . To date, he has celebrated six tournament wins in this class. In November 2011 he won alongside Júlio César Campozano at the doubles tournament in Guayaquil and celebrated his greatest success to date in professional tennis. On December 5, 2011, he reached position 316 in the world rankings, his highest ranking.

At the Pan American Games in 2011 , he won the silver medal in men's doubles alongside Júlio César Campozano .

Davis Cup

Quiroz has been part of his country's Davis Cup team since 2011 . He made his debut in July against Canada in doubles alongside Emilio Gómez. The match was lost in three sets. In September 2012 he got his first chance in singles and won his game against Jorge Panta in two sets. He lost his second and so far last individual against Michael Lammer in September 2013. His balance (as of October 28, 2014) is 1: 1 in singles and 0: 5 in doubles.
