The Ecuadorian Roberto Quiroz from the University of Southern California won both 2012 and 2013 in the men's singles. In 2014, when Quiroz did not take part in the tournament for the first time, the American Hunter Harrington from Clemson University won the title.

The tournament is one of the invitation tournaments. This means that the participating players do not come from every university in the NCAA Division I, but only from the schools that have registered for the tournament. In 2014 there were 13 universities for men and 16 for women. In addition, several juniors from the United States Tennis Association receive an invitation each year.

In each competition there are several main rounds (men A, men B etc.) and corresponding secondary rounds.
