Bauru , officially Portuguese Município de Bauru , is a city in the Brazilian state of São Paulo . In 2018 the population of the city was estimated at 374,272 people, who live on around 667.7 km² and are called Bauruenses (port: bauruenses ). The distance to the capital São Paulo is 326 km.

Bauru is home to the EC Noroeste football club , which plays in the A2 series of the Campeonato Paulista of the Federação Paulista de Futebol .
The footballer Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known by his nickname Pelé , played at Bauru Atlético Clube before coming to Santos .

Bauru has a local transport system that is served by buses. In addition to the buses, there are taxis and moto-taxis (taxi-motorcycle).
Long-distance passenger transport
As is common in large parts of Brazil, long-distance passenger transport is not handled by rail, but by buses. In Bauru, as in most Brazilian cities of this size, there is a bus station ( port. Terminal rodoviário ), which replaces the train station and offers overland connections. A non-stop connection from Bauru to São Paulo usually takes four and a half hours. There are also connections where smaller cities are served on the way, which increases the travel time.
Airports
Although Bauru is relatively small, the city has two airports. Aeroporto de Bauru Airport ( IATA : BAU, ICAO : SBBU) is right in the city. The second airport, Aeroporto de Bauru-Arealva ( IATA : JTC, ICAO : SJTC) is located north of the city.

Trivia
A sandwich is named after Bauru.
In 2008 one of the city's landmarks, the Bauruzinho , was stolen by a gang of young people who wanted to decorate their room with things like traffic signs, shopping carts and the Bauruzinho. The Bauruzinho is a colorful figure who represents a sandwich and is on Av. Nações Unidas was placed. However, as a result of the police investigation, they were found and the figure was seized.
