Kiribati National Olympic Committee

The Kiribati National Olympic Committee ( KNOC ) is the National Olympic Committee of the island state of Kiribati founded in November 2002 . In June 2003 it was accepted by the International Olympic Committee .

Kiribati first took part in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and sent weightlifter Meamea Thomas , runner Kakianako Nariki and runner Kaitinano Mwemweata in the field of athletics . In the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 Kiribati was represented by two Olympians, the weightlifter David Katoatau and the rotor Rabangaki Nawai ..

Heavyweight boxer Tarieta Ruata and middleweight boxer Andrew Kometa could not qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, despite high hopes at the "Oceania Olympic Boxing Qualifying Tournament" in Canberra . The KNOC nominated three athletes in two sports: David Katoatau (weightlifting) and Kaingaue David (100-meter run, women) and Nooa Takooa (100-meter run, men).

The KNOC can draw on athletes from 15 Kiribati sports associations: Kiribati Amateur Boxing Association , Kiribati Archery Federation, Kiribati Athletics Association , Kiribati Badminton Federation, Kiribati Basketball Federation, Kiribati Islands Football Association , Kiribati National Canoeing Federation, Kiribati National Volleyball Federation, Kiribati National Weightlifting Federation , Kiribati Power lifting Federation, Kiribati Table Tennis Association, Kiribati Tennis Association, Kiribati Wrestling Federation , Sports Taekwondo Kiribati, Kiribati Surfing Association.
