Afanasijs Kuzmins

Afanasijs Kuzmins (born March 22, 1947 in Krivošejeva , Daugavpils novads ) is a Latvian marksman .

Kuzmin took in 1976 for the first time in the Olympic Games in part, finishing in fourth place. Four years later he reached sixth place. At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, he was Olympic champion with the rapid fire pistol for the USSR ahead of Ralf Schumann from the GDR . Four years later, Kuzmins started for Latvia and won silver, this time behind Schumann and ahead of Wladimir Wochmjanin . This medal was the first precious metal for the Latvian team at the Olympic Games since 1936.

Up to and including 2012, Kuzmins took part in the Olympic Games nine times, three times for the Soviet Union and six times for Latvia. Five times Kuzmins was placed in the top eight, most recently as eighth in 2000 in Sydney . He is one of the athletes with the most Olympics .
