Pentti Linnosvuo

Pentti Tapio Akseli Linnosvuo (born March 17, 1933 in Vaasa , † July 13, 2010 ) was a Finnish marksman who won two Olympic gold medals and one silver medal.

At the age of 19 Linnosvuo entered the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki with the rapid fire pistol and finished fifth with 577 rings, two rings behind the Hungarian winner Károly Takács . In 1954 at the World Championship, Linnosvuo won bronze with the rapid fire pistol in the individual competition and also bronze with the team. At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 Linnosvuo was fourth with the rapid fire pistol; with 581 rings he was six rings behind the Romanian Olympic champion Ștefan Petrescu. Linnosvuo also competed with the free pistol and won gold with 556 rings with the same number of rings for Machmud Umarov from the Soviet Union, who placed second .

At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome , Linnosvuo took 13th place with 539 rings with the free pistol. With the rapid fire pistol, three shooters reached 587 rings each; In the tie-off, the American William McMillan won gold in front of Linnosvuo and Alexander Sabelin from the Soviet Union. In 1964 at the Olympic Games in Tokyo , Linnosvuo only started with the rapid fire pistol. With an Olympic record of 592 rings, he won his second Olympic gold medal, the first with the rapid-fire pistol. In 1968 in Mexico City , Linnosvuo finished eleventh with 587 rings in his fifth Olympic participation.

Linnosvuo is the only marksman other than Alfred Lane who succeeded in this at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm , who won Olympic gold with both the free pistol and the rapid-fire pistol.

Linnosvuo studied economics at Helsinki University and later worked in the paper business. He was also appointed as a trainer in Norway and in the Federal Republic of Germany.
