Machmud Umarov ( Kazakh Махмуд Умаров ; born September 10, 1924 in Alma-Ata , Kazakh SSR ; † December 25, 1961 ) was a Kazakh sports shooter who was active for the Soviet Union .
successes
Mahmud Umarov took part in two Olympic Games in the discipline with the free pistol . At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 he scored 556 points and thus finished first like Pentti Linnosvuo . In the jump-off, Linnosvuo prevailed against Umarow with 26 to 24, so that he won the silver medal in front of the third-placed Offutt Pinion . In 1960 he finished the competition in Rome with 552 points in second place behind Olympic champion Alexei Guschtschin , tied with Yoshihisa Yoshikawa . This time Umarow had the upper hand in the jump-off, he won the duel with 26 to 20 and received the silver medal again.
As early as 1954, he became world champion in the team competition with the large-caliber pistol . Four years later he won the title in Moscow with the free pistol in both individual and team competitions and also took second place with the team with the large-bore pistol. In 1955 he was European champion in singles with the large-caliber pistol in Bucharest .
