Alfred Lane
Alfred Page Lane (born September 26, 1891 in New York City , † October 1965 there ) was an American sports marksman . He won five Olympic gold medals.
Lane began his career with the Manhattan Rifle and Revolver Association . At the age of 19, he won several US championship titles in 1911. At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 he won gold with the free pistol and with the rapid-fire pistol . He won a third gold medal in the team competition with the free pistol. In the team competition with the rapid-fire pistol, the American team was only fourth.
In the following years he won other US championship titles. At the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp, Lane finished third with the free pistol. With the team, he won two more gold medals: with the free pistol and with the rapid-fire pistol.
After his career he worked in the advertising department of Remington . He later headed the photo department at a magazine publisher.
Alfred Lane is the only marksman who won the same Olympics with the free pistol and with the rapid-fire pistol. The Finn Pentti Linnosvuo also won gold in both disciplines, albeit eight years behind.
