Guilherme Parãense
Guilherme Parãense (born June 25, 1884 in Belém , † April 18, 1968 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian marksman and the first Olympic champion in Brazil .
Life
At the Olympic Games in 1920 , the competition with the free pistol was held at 50 meters on August 2nd. The American Karl Frederick won with 496 points ahead of the Brazilian Afrânio da Costa with 489 points. In the team standings, the Americans won ahead of the Swedes and Brazilians; Guilherme Parãense was the Brazilian team's second best scorer with 456 points, apart from him and da Costa the team included Sebastião Wolf with 454 points, Dario Barbosa with 441 points and Fernando Soledade with 424 points.
One day after the silver medal for da Costa and the bronze medal for the team, the shooting with the rapid fire pistol took place at 30 meters. In the team standings, the US shooters won ahead of the Greeks and the Swiss, with the Brazilians nine points behind the Swiss in fourth place with the same line-up as the day before. Parãense won the individual ranking with 274 points ahead of the American Raymond Bracken with 272 points and the Swiss Fritz Zulauf with 269 points.
32 years after Guilherme Parãense, the athlete Adhemar da Silva won the second Olympic gold medal for Brazil in the triple jump.
