Quincy Detenamo

Quincy Detenamo (born March 8, 1979 in Buada ) is a Nauruan weightlifter . His uncle Vinson Detenamo is a former MP and President of the Nauruan National Olympic Committee ; his cousin Itte Detenamo participated in the Athens Games .

He took part in the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and 2002 and the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 , where he was one of the first three athletes to represent Nauru at the Olympic Games. In 1999 he set a new record in the 77-kilo class at the South Pacific Games . He had no plans to compete for the Olympic Games in Athens .

In August 2004, two of Detenamo's aunts had issued a statement to a Melbourne judicial tribunal that their nephew was involved in the murder of a part-time Australian prostitute; Detenamo was arrested by police at Melbourne Airport on August 4, 2004 when he was flying to Fiji for training . He was in Melbourne at the time of the crime to assist Australian weightlifter Caroline Pileggi on doping allegations against her. The verdict in the trial should have been passed by August 16, but this was postponed for reasons unknown. The trial continued on March 7, 2005; According to the autopsy report, Detenamo DNA traces were found on the body. On October 5, 2005, the trial began in the Melbourne Supreme Court . On October 14, he was acquitted of the murder charge, but convicted of manslaughter . Detenamo remained in custody until the verdict was announced. On December 14th, he was finally sentenced to nine years in prison by the Melbourne court ; if he is well managed, he can be dismissed after seven years.
