The Pacific Games ( English Pacific Games , formerly South Pacific Games ) are regularly South Pacific area held sports competition events. They were introduced at the suggestion of Sahu Khan and were held for the first time in Suva ( Fiji ) in 1963 .

The Pacific Games are organized by the Pacific Games Council , which consists of the Executive Committee, the technical committees, and the national sports associations (mostly the NOKs ) organized in the Pacific Games Association .

M. Turukawa, the shot putter from Fiji, was the first ever gold medalist at the South Pacific Games . In a total of 60 decisions, Fiji won 34 gold medals. In 2007, the South Pacific Games soccer tournament served as the first round of the 2008 OFC Nation Cup .

After the South Pacific Games 2007 in Samoa , the name of the games was changed to Pacific Games on September 8, 2007 . The last Pacific Games were held from July 4th to 18th, 2015 in Port Moresby , Papua New Guinea . This marked the 40th anniversary of Papua New Guinea's independence.

Eternal medal table

To date, 8,107 medals have been awarded at 15 Pacific Games since 1963. 24 nations won medals. By far the most successful team is the New Caledonian, which won a total of 2,091 medals, 837 of which were gold medals.

The placements are sorted by the number of gold medals won, followed by the number of silver and bronze medals. If two or more countries have an identical medal balance, they are named alphabetically after the state name.
